I originally made recordings of bowed cymbals and prepared guitars in 2008 & 2009 when I was still in school. I recently found them as I was excavating backups on old drives and realised that with recent technological advances these recordings could be salvaged and transformed into a piece.
There are three layers:
•Eight larger cymbals (bowed).
•Four smaller cymbals(bowed).
•Eight prepared guitars (tabletop guitar, metal bowl on strings at top of neck, ebow).
The instruments were all independently fed through the electronics, and summed to three stereo files (grouped as outlined above) which were then summed again to a stereo file which was given some low end enhancement to make the final master.
In some ideal, limitless, unfathomably well funded, utterly utopian New Music future I'd be quite interested to hear this music performed as an ensemble piece for 12 percussionists, 8 guitarists and live electronics.
